  1. I would choose Steel, since you can practically "fly" by Pushing, especially in a modern setting with so much metal around... Plus you can fling things with it!

  2. I'd be a pewterarm. Sure, it'd be cool to be able to fly, or to manipulate people's emotions, but day-to-day, pewter would be more useful. You wouldn't need energy drinks or protein shakes or vitamin C, just a vial of pewter and you're good to go. I wrote a blog concerning this at http://www.17thshard.com/forum/blog/12/entry-67-the-big-debate

  3. I would be a Rioter. I don't see myself being very violent, so the physical metals wouldn't be much use. I would rather increase emotion and feeling in the world by helping to bring it out in others.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I really like the idea of being burning brass as a Soother. As a hopeful mother, the idea of being able to calm unhappy children is very appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Iron! Since you can be Spiderman with it, only minus the stickiness.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I would want to be able to burn steel, but I'm very injure prone and I can just see myself ramming in to some building, so I think I will go with tin because it would be nice to no longer need my glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I would be a Rioter because then if somebody mugged me I could make them afraid and they'd run away.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm going with Rioter. I can see endless uses for that in day to day life :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Atrium. Imagine going to Vegas to the World Poker Tournament and burning Atrium before laying every bet.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Definitely Pewter, just for the health and recovery benefits alone, it is awesome. The strength and speed don't hurt either.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Slider. Doesn't matter how fast you shoot anything (coins, bullets) I'll move faster. Besides, being a Bendalloy savant would be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cerrobend.

It'd get me through the day at work quicker, I reckon. Surely that's reason enough?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Brass - a Soother. I think that soothing would be one of the most useful in everyday life. I know that a great many of us come in contact with people who we want to tell to just calm down, or "let it go."

I've always been a peacemaker too, so being able to calm others and help them get past the anger to where they can think things through would be extremely helpful. (I don't remember, can you target yourself? 'Cause yeah, that'd be quite the trick!)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Atium hands down. Can't hit what you can't touch.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hands down Pewter. Being a Coinshot would be nice, but if I were a Thug, I could get a lot more work done around the house. I'd never have trouble opening a jar again, and I'd probably fight my way into the UFC some day...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Steel, I'm constantly on the move and would be able to save money by no longer needing to drive. =) Not to mention it would held the environment as well.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tineye. Being an engineer the enhancement of all my senses is appealing for my many detail-oriented tasks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd want to be a Tineye. Having enhanced sense, though it has its downsides, can be really fun considering I'd burn tin anytime I ate my favorite foods. Also, I have really bad vision (I've had glasses since 4th grade) so, it'd help me finally get rid of glasses, at least sometimes. Then there's the fact that I have a girlfriend (yes, I'm a lesbian) so I'd just love to be able to take all of her in and experience her through enhanced senses (I mean this romantically, not sexually).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think I'd go with pewter. I'm always accidentally injuring myself, so it'd be useful to be able to burn pewter. Besides, it's relatively cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A soothed to take all the sales, in my business you have to be anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Most definitely pewter... Iron or steel without the other would be rather risky and I don't find the other metals all that appealing. Pewter seems most beneficial as a standalone metal.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd have to go with Steel. Every time I get a handful of coins I imagine shooting them in whatever direction. There would be a lot that could be done if one were a Coinshot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Zinc, need to get some people writing about the big ass US Budget Deficit and all of the other crap politicians are getting away with, all because people won't give a damn :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Pewter. I have four kids. No amount of soothing works. A pewter enhanced butt whoopin' might. And I suppose it would make me much more capable of protecting them. Heck, burning pewter would help me almost become as strong as my wife does when protecting our children. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't suppose I'd be allowed to burn Larasium, would I?

At any rate, Pushing or Pulling? How would I explain that to anyone who saw chunks of metal (or me, of all things) zipping about?

Soothing or Rioting? Useful to be sure, but I've never been very good at reading other people to begin with.

But, being able to increase my senses with tin, or strengthen myself with pewter - now that would be a worthwhile ability to have. Since they're internal metals, I could use them subtly in the modern world, and nobody would be the wiser.

Between the two, I'd have to go with being a Thug. I've never quite been in the best physical condition to begin with, so being able to burn pewter and bolster that would be a very welcome change. Being able to recover quickly from illness is a nice boost as well. And think of all the fancy tricks I could do with the increased balance and dexterity!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd go with Electrum. It would be handy to see my own future while ridding my bike. It would at least make me feel more safe because I'd have a few second head start on something bad happening.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rioter, to encourage Brandon to write faster.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm a Tineye!!! I'd love to be able to seek things out, see so well. I'm very good at that already and enhancing it would make me a machine xD Being able to hear well? I do already, so enhancing that, again, machine! I'd be the ultimate scout/lookout :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I suspect being a Thug may prove the most useful day-to-day. Besides, pewter is cheap in large quantities, so it may be easy to come by.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Atium.. without a doubt, being able to see whats going to happen before it happens... no contest

    ReplyDelete
  32. People keep saying that they would want to be able to Sooth to calm things down, but Soothing would just deaden emotion instead of actually solving problems.

I'd much rather be an Oracle, burning Electrum to always make the right choice in difficult situations. Answer a question in a business meeting, and see two different possibilities, one where your boss is laughing at you, the other where you're getting promoted... Being able to see which route is faster on the drive home. Being able to see whats going to happen when you're getting mugged, and what to do to get out of the situation.

Anything boosting my ability to make decisions would be amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Zinc or Tin. I like the idea of rioting peoples emotions, since the world seems far to apathetic. But tin would be pretty awesome too. Super senses... yes please.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think I would definitely have to say Brass. Seeing as I don't have much need for being physically enhanced (in my current life--I guess that would change if I were a Thug or Coinshot/Lurcher...), I'd like to be a Soother. Seems like you'd be able to get away with things that people would normally get mad at...or make you a very valuable person on any kind of team so you could soothe nerves in any situation. I just think I'd rather be able to Soothe than Riot emotions. Goes more with my personality.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'll go with Steel. I'd love to be able to "fly" with it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good question. As a peaceful person, I think I'd rather be a Soother. Thus I could avoid quarrels and conflicts easily, since first I'd soothe my friend/partner/family member, and then we could sit down for a talk.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Definitely a tineye. You could glean so much information from everything around you. With enough tin, you would virtually never be surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Cadmium.....I could see the wonders of the world absorbing each bit in its full. Well at least the ones closest to me at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd go with pewter. While it isn't the most fun, it's pretty darn practical.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Iron, for sure. I get to be Spider-Man AND a Jedi? Yes, please.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bronze, would want to know what other people were burning around me. Would also be nice to know if anyone was trying to sneak up on me.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Let's go with nicrosil. We can't all be the heroes, so that would make a pretty good sidekick ^^.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'd probably go for Pewter or Iron. Being generally all-around physically badass has so many uses, but being able to swing around the city like spiderman would be awesome in its own right :P

    ReplyDelete
  44. Pewter most definitely. NFL, here I come :D

    ReplyDelete
  45. Rioter... why be powerful when you can influence powerful people iinstead. Not to mention beautiful girls.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tin. Because, basically, I'm nosey.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd be a Brass-burnin' Soother, changing career paths to become a divorce lawyer. I'd then use those newly-found talents to try and prevent pointless divorces.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cool! I love your art :) It's awesome.
And... I think I'd like to be a steel misting. Flying through the air... throwing coins at people... man... it'd be great :) Coinshots ftw!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Rioter, easy. Not that I would 'want' to entice and encourage emotions in a negative way I find that I kinda already do so without any metal in me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Pewter. this would be the most useful in daily life.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think I'd be a pewterarm for the enhanced speed, strength and agility. Tineye comes in a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Atium would be awesome...
except that the metal doesn't exist, so you couldn't use your power :(
If we lived in a world with atium, that would be my choice. Otherwise I would probably go with steel.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would be a Tin-eye! I have always enjoyed being able to use my senses to their fullest potential.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'd go with steel...
First off, flying seems to be a rather useful skill... toss on being able to see (and track) sources of metal through walls, rarely needing to get up to open a door (well, depending on the door type), no fear of ever getting mugged, and fast and cheap transportation (with gas prices these days), and you have a fairly useful skill.
To be fair, I really, really, want to be a feruchemist...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'd be a thug, because it's the shortest route to my ultimate life-long wish to be a superhero. And since I'd still look like a helpless girl when I wasn't burning, no one would ever guess my secret identity.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Cerrobend (Slider) for all of those moments that you just want to get through. Time flies!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'd choose to be a Cadmium - pulser. I'd love to be able to slow time down. I could take a ten minute break at work and actually do something useful. I could read an entire book without feeling guilty about time. I could use it, if necessary, in a fight to slow my opponent down to dodge their attacks more easily. I'm afraid it would be use most often to keep me from being late :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Going to have to go with pewter. Although if I'm completely honest I would most likely end up as a pewter savant.

    ReplyDelete
  59. pewter, because i like hitting things.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Have to agree that soother is the most practical choice as a mom.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Definitely pewter - for the strength and health.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm tempted by Soothing, but ultimately it would have to be pewter. The old adage holds true, if you've got your health, you've got everything. My wife says if I shave my head I'll look like a thug anyway, so I'm halfway there!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Gold. I managed to find one of the signed books Brandon enjoys leaving in airport bookstores (The Gathering Storm, actually) and he left a prize in this one. It was a fancy little decal of the Gold Allomantic symbol. Therefore, I burn gold, because Brandon said so.
Also I think it'd be fun to sorta drive myself crazy with all the could have/would have beens. I'd be like Hurin. Or the TARDIS!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am a elementary school teacher so it would be awesome to be a soother so that when the students are all crazy I could calm them down :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would have to go with Pewter, but Tin would be a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'd have to go with pewter. As cool as the enhanced strength and such would be, my primary draw would be the perfect balance. No more looking like a moron when you miss a stair and do that half-stumble thing!
Plus, you get a nice stockpile of the metal by collecting those little dragon and wizard figurines.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bronze Seeker. That way I could find all you other cool people and never have to hang out with dull people again!

Plus...if allomantic abilities run in the family, I want to know what my kids are up to.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Assuming I am a Misting in the Final Empire I'd want to be a Coppercloud. That way I'd get paid good money to sit around and watch less creative Mistings get beaten bloody or more creative Mistings make a mess of things. Me, well I'm just that guy in the corner minding their own business. You should really be more focused on my angry friend with the full coinpurse.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Duralumin Knat. I mean you could be in the exclusive club of the Allomancers without worrying about all of the resposibilities. Plus, on your deathbed, or in a spot where you know you're going to die, you could spike yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Steel for sure, I love the thought of nearly flying. The horseshoe part always cracks me up!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Pewter, but not for the strength. For the fatigue resistance.

    ReplyDelete
  72. cadmium, definitely. it would be totally awesome to be able to use slo-mo

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tin: I have very poor eyesight so being able to enhance my vision and other senses appeals to me. Plus it would be handy for work.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Pewter! Then I wouldn't need any sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Pewter
I've got two small kids so it would be great to be able to keep up with them even when I don't get enough sleep. Also I'd love to be able to carry them for as long as they want me to.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Pewter - I always feel like I could be stronger, faster, etc ;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Tin, can you imagine how fun it would be to kiss someone with heightened senses? and how good would food taste? so tin, for the enhancement of worldly pleasures.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Using the metals for Soothing or Rioting are a breach of trust, so I would have to go with Tin so I dont miss out on anything life has to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Personally, I would be a "Slider". They would be by far the most useful of them all. Especially combined with something else whilest being a mistborn. But alone, I would have time for essentially anything I need. College would go smoother because I would have more time in general. In Sports I could slightly alter my own speed, and become much more effective. And I'll be honest; I'm very prideful. It would be a prideful action, but at the same time, if I had that advantage of time, why not use it to the best of my ability? I could go through college faster than most because I would have more time. It's as simple as that. :D

    ReplyDelete
  80. Steel for sure! I couldn't pass up having the feeling of flying!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Tineye. Enhanced senses would be most excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  82. The Eleventh Metal. How cool would that be? I'm insatiably curious, and I love finding out about people. I would love being able to see how people have changed in their lifetime. Then I could stick my nose in and ask them about it. :D

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'd be a soother - as I prefer to solve conflict through peaceful dialogue (would also help with converting heated arguments into logical discussions...)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I am shocked that out of the 86 comments, mine is only the fourth vote for atium. The coolest scene of any movie is when spider man uses his super quickness to avoid what looks like a super slow punch. Multiply that by 3.1415926 and you get atium. You could dominate the UFC world and accomplish many other great feats

    ReplyDelete
  85. I would choose Brass to be a Soother. Though rioting would be equally useful I feel that dampening emotions would be much more subtle, which is more my style. It's like the ninja of emotional allomancy. I would also, at some point, pull a Spook and try flaring Brass for a year straight to see what the effects would be like.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Only one choice...steel! I would love the ability to move around through the air like Vin does. Also great for protection :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Copper so I could hide myself from all of the geeky weirdos out there who burn the cool and destructive metals :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would choose pewter. So could I re-read the whole trilogy without pause (eating or sleeping).

But I never would choose atium. It would be disturbing to see all possible events coming in the next pages by reading a book of Brandon :-)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Definitely Pewter. Besides being able to keep myself up to study for finals, it would be totally awesome to be able to kick butt at our weekly soccer games. Enhanced speed, balance, and endurance? Yes, please! Plus, it's cheap and easy to come by...unlike atium, which would be my second choice.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I'd pick Atium if it were real. Playing as a soccer goalie, seeing where the ball will go about a second beforehand would let me cleansheet every match =).
I suppose Pewter would be my next choice, as it would give me the reaction boosts to essentially accomplish the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Pewter - Who couldn't use a boost to get more done in life!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Definitely a Tin-eye! I'd love to be able to notice almost everything around me perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I would choose pewter.
I would choose pewter because I enjoy physical activity a great deal, but as I am aging, I am no longer able to do the activities that I love to do(I twisted my ankle a month ago, and it's still not healed enough to play basketball/volleyball).

If I could burn pewter, I could heal that injury much more quickly.

It should be noted that while I love physical activities like sports, I would use pewter in order to avoid injuries as opposed to using it to become a professional athlete or some such and to have an unfair advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think that while it would be awesome to be mistborn, if I had to be a misting, I would burn Malatium. It would be extremely useful to see the past of people. You could figure the level of trustworthy-ness of people. Also it would be nice to be able to find out if you have things in common.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I would choose steel, and here's why. I am a skydiving instructor in Texas. If my parachute fails to open, I could always carry some metal with me and push down on it for a soft landing!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Steel for sure. As has been said before, we are surrounded by so much tech, so much metal, it would be awesome to be able to manipulate it, and to move myself by it!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Atium. Would never have to worry about losing a fight. Could win lots of money at roulette so never have to work again.

    ReplyDelete
  98. As fun as steel and iron would be, pewter seems the best for normal life. Guess I'm a thug.

Of course, for steel and iron, I could always look into Hemalurgy... *Checks comments to see who picked what*

    ReplyDelete
  99. I would choose pewter. That way I could skip sleeping and not rely on coffee to keep me awake.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Steel. Close as you can get to being a superhero. Knives and bullets cant harm you if your experienced enough with it. Even pewter can go down trying to stop a robbery. Would need a cool cape to go with this though in today's world.....

    ReplyDelete
  101. I would be tineye, so I could get rid of my glasses. :)

    ReplyDelete
  102. As my family's/friends' unofficial sounding board, I would probably burn brass as a Soother. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  103. I would be a Tineye except I already had Lasik, though I think the enhanced listening could come in handy a lot. So instead, I'd be a Coinshot so I could steelpush, leap around, and have that kind of leverage over my attackers.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'd have to go with Brass. While a superpower would be pretty cool, I think Brass would be the most useful in day to day life.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'd choose to be a Soother. The idea of people suddenly 'wanting' to do something that I'd like them to pleases me very much. I always loved Breeze for that. An I'd never, ever say I was a misting, so people would not expect it, leaving them completely defenceless.

Hey, I never said I were a good person XD.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm a pacifist, so things like pewter are out. Tin has quite a downside considering the vulnerability to loud noise and bright lights. Copper lends itself most to dishonesty, unless we were living under the lord ruler and I could use it to protect "half-breeds". With iron and steel there's the pacifism again, besides which I'm afraid of heights, and I'm not sure if I'd like to trust myself with the power to manipulate other people. Trying to use a power like Soothing or Rioting responsibly would probably be difficult. It's too easy to use them for selfish purposes.

The introvert in me says gold. I think self-knowledge is important, and knowing where other decisions might have led you could lend greater perspective on your life and the choices you make in future. It'd just be so... interesting.
